Week of February 16, 2026
On Monday, February 16th, I met with Dr. McCort on Microsoft Teams for one hour to go over the expectations of my practicum and what my role will be for the Spring 2026 Honors Program Newsletter. This meeting was important because it gave me clarity on the direction of the project and what success will look like.
During the meeting, we reviewed previous Honors Program newsletter templates from past semesters. We discussed layout structure, branding consistency, typography choices, and how the visual hierarchy guides the reader through the publication. Looking at the Fall 2025 and Spring 2025 editions helped me understand what elements need to stay consistent (branding, color palette, overall format) and where there is room for improvement or modernization.
After the meeting, I spent additional time independently reviewing the prior templates to better understand their structure and design flow. I completed one hour of review on Zoom on Monday, one hour on Friday, and one hour on Sunday. During these sessions, I analyzed how the headlines were formatted, how imagery was incorporated, and how spacing and balance impacted readability.
I also began planning how I will approach the Spring 2026 newsletter. My goal is to maintain Point Park University’s brand identity while elevating the overall design to feel more modern and cohesive. I am considering how to improve photo placement, tighten typography consistency, and create stronger visual alignment throughout the pages.
Overall, this week focused on understanding expectations, reviewing previous work, and building a clear strategy before beginning the actual design process. Establishing this foundation will help ensure that the Spring 2026 newsletter is both professional and aligned with the Honors Program’s standards.
